Brazil MILK ESPRESSO ALTA MOGIANA from the Berlin roastery The Barn is an espresso for anyone looking for a sweet, smooth, and beautifully chocolatey cup. Dominant milk chocolate notes blend with the flavor of dried plums, a delicate fruity sweetness, and very low acidity. In an espresso, the coffee comes across as full-bodied and velvety; when combined with milk, its chocolatey character stands out even more. However, if you enjoy it black, you can also detect a slightly fragrant note of black tea.
The beans come from the Alta Mogiana region in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, where The Barn collaborates with the FAF organization and local family farms. Catuai coffee trees grow here at an elevation of approximately 800–1,200 meters. Alta Mogiana is one of Brazil’s traditional coffee-growing regions. The local plateaus, gently rolling landscape, and pleasant climate create ideal conditions for growing Arabica. FAF has been working with farmers for many years to improve quality and promote more sustainable production methods.
The coffee is processed using the dry (natural) method. Ripe cherries are carefully hand-picked and sorted, after which they are slowly dried whole—still with their pulp—on terraces. It is precisely this contact between the bean and the drying pulp that enhances the distinct sweetness and the fuller, more aromatic character of the final cup. The result is a pleasantly approachable espresso with notes of chocolate, dried fruit, and a smooth sweetness.
