Venezuela maynot be the firstcountry you associate with specialty coffee, but that's what makes this espresso bomb from Kolna Roastery all the more surprising. Inside the cup you'll find a velvety combination of milk chocolate, hazelnuts, dried peaches and cream that will please any fan of sweet and round espresso. The coffee is sourced from the Santa Cruz de Mora region of Mérida state , where it is once again putting the Andrade family on the world coffee map. Processed using the washed method and tuned specifically for espresso, it offers an elegant balance between sweetness and subtle fruitiness.
The Andrade family is behind this coffee , which has been growing and processing coffee in the hills of the Venezuelan Andes for four generations . At a time when most of the country's farmers have given way to other industries due to economic pressures, the Andrades decided to go in the opposite direction - to stay, educate the community and give Venezuela back its coffee pride. Today, their processing station produces coffee lots that carry not only high quality, but also a story of perseverance, innovation and a deep respect for the craft.
This batch is a beautiful demonstration of what the combination of a modern approach and traditional farming can do . The coffee cherries are hand-picked, almost a necessity in the hilly terrain, and then undergo floating - the separation of unripe and damaged fruit. This is followed by fermentation for 18 hours, during which the remaining pulp is removed, and then careful sorting according to size and quality. The result is an espresso with a clean flavour profile that takes you on a short but intense journey into the heart of Latin America.
