The Filter Blend from Square Mile Coffee Roasters is an example of how two different worlds—Mexico and Costa Rica—can complement each other perfectly. This blend combines Lot Union San Pedro from Oaxaca, Mexico, and Macho from producers Kevin and Efraín Naranjo from Tarrazú, creating a harmonious and warm blend with notes of baked apples drizzled with syrup, delicate sweetness, and a smooth body. The coffee is roasted for filter brewing, whether you prepare it in a dripper, Chemex, or as a batch brew. The Filter Blend is delicate, clean, and accessible, ideal for those looking for a perfectly balanced cup with the character of two exceptional terroirs.

The first part of the blend comes from the Union San Pedro (USP) cooperative in the Sierra Sur region of Oaxaca, Mexico, which has undergone tremendous development in recent years. Farmers have invested in organic fertilizers and sustainable farming and have expanded their operations to eight new communities. During the last harvest, they focused on improving fermentation processes—instead of the traditional short 12-hour fermentation, they experimented with longer times, which increased the sweetness and complexity of the resulting coffee. This lot is a blend from 26 members of the cooperative who share a philosophy of sustainable cultivation and efforts to improve quality. The beans come from the Caturra, Mundo Novo, and Pluma Hidalgo varieties and are processed using the classic washed method, which brings out their purity and delicate fruity tones.

The second part of the blend is Macho coffee from brothers Kevin and Efraín Naranjo from the Tarrazú region of Costa Rica—a name that resonates in the world of specialty coffee thanks to their innovative approach and precise work. This year, they faced extreme rainfall during the harvest, so they decided to experiment with a new white honey method, which they further enriched with a two-day rest period for the cherries before hulling. This "rested" process resulted in an exceptionally clean and sweet profile with a distinctive roasted fruit flavor and a hint of honey. The coffee comes from the Catuaí variety and is processed with an emphasis on sustainability and quality control at every step.
