This coffee from the Prague roastery Tribes of Mokha is characterized by sweetness, roundness, and a very approachable, everyday-drinkable profile. In the cup, notes of praline, brown sugar, and jam unfold, giving the coffee a delicate, dessert-like quality. The overall impression is harmonious and calm, without excessive acidity or heaviness. It’s exactly the kind of espresso that works as a reliable everyday cup, yet still has enough character to avoid feeling ordinary. The praline note adds a subtle nutty and creamy-sweet undertone to the flavor, the brown sugar brings a warm, sugary richness, and the marmalade component gives the entire coffee a slightly fruity, smooth finish. The overall profile is very balanced and approachable, so this coffee pairs well with both black espresso and milk-based drinks, where its sweeter base stands out even more.

The coffee comes from Peru, specifically the Cajamarca region, which is among the most important and productive coffee-growing areas in the entire country. It is a semi-dry to semi-cool tropical region in the northeastern highlands of Peru, where fertile soils and high-altitude conditions create excellent conditions for producing specialty coffee. Today, Cajamarca accounts for roughly a quarter of all Peruvian coffee production. Most of the coffee here is grown on small farms ranging in size from about two to three hectares, and many local growers farm organically. Behind this lot is Rony Lavan, an ambitious, quality-focused cupper who has long been dedicated to seeking out more distinctive and higher-quality coffees from small Peruvian producers. The variety is a blend of Catimor and Caturra, grown at an elevation of 1, 6501, 800 meters above sea level.

The coffee is processed using the washed method, which gives it clarity, stability, and a very well-defined flavor profile. It is precisely this washed processing that helps keep the coffee balanced and makes it an espresso that is easy to understand, yet sufficiently flavorful and distinctive. It is a coffee that does not seek to shock, but rather to offer a precisely crafted, sweet, and joyfully drinkable daily cup that you’ll want to come back to.
