PB Kiru Kamagogo #148 from Candycane Roasters is proof of why Kenyan coffee is among the most popular in the world and why it maintains its reputation as an absolute classic among lovers of premium espresso and filter coffee. Thanks to its fully washed processing, its clean, juicy character comes through fully in the cup. With a cupping score of 87.5, it offers a distinctive and typically Kenyan experience – sweet notes of blackberries and raspberries, juicy apple, herbal accents, and lively acidity that beautifully brightens the coffee. The aftertaste is long and fruity, with a subtle hint of caramel that softens the overall expression and gives it an elegant balance.
It comes from the Murang'a region, where a mixture of SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian varieties grow at an altitude of 1,800 meters on fertile volcanic soils. The processing is carried out by the Kamagogo station, which is part of the Kiru Farmers' Cooperative Society. This brings together approximately 1,000 small growers who tend to their coffee trees on their small plots of land with great care and tradition, often passed down from generation to generation. Their work and know-how result in a distinctive and pure coffee that ranks among the best the Kenyan region has to offer. In addition, the cooperative provides farmers with professional training, technical support, and access to demonstration plots so that they can continuously improve their cultivation and harvesting practices. As a result, coffee from the Kamagogo station maintains a consistently high quality while supporting the development of the entire local community.
In addition to coffee, growers also focus on other crops such as macadamia nuts, bananas, corn, beans, and tea. This approach not only strengthens the local community, but also enables sustainable farming and the careful use of natural resources, including water in processing. The result is coffee that not only carries the taste of the place, but also the story of the people who create it with care and dedication.
