ThisIndonesiancoffee from the Australian roastery Black Mass Roasters in Brisbane has a darker, deeper, and fruitier profile than a classic light filter coffee, yet it retains its clarity and is very easy to read. In the cup , notes of goji berry, plum, and chocolate-covered orange emerge , so the profile is built on darker fruits, a subtle liqueur-like sweetness, and a chocolatey-citrus finish. It’s exactly the type of coffee that’s perfect for sipping slowly and for moments when you want something fruity, but not light or delicate. Black Mass has a very distinctive aesthetic and approach to lot selection, and this Indonesian coffee fits perfectly into their style.

The coffee comes from Indonesia, specifically the West Javaregion ,from the Mount Malabar area in Java Preanger. The producer is Poktan Rahayu Tani, and the lot consists of Catimor and Typica varieties . The coffee trees grow at an elevation of 1,800 meters, which is a very respectable altitude for local conditions, allowing for the development of a complex and slower-ripening profile. The very combination of West Java, higher altitude, and the blend of varieties suggests that this coffee won’t rely solely on earthiness or heaviness, but on a fruitier and cleaner expression. This is precisely what the flavor confirms. Desolate Divine comes across as more modern, sweeter, and with greater depth than most people would expect from a typical Indonesian coffee.

It is processed using the natural method, which gives this coffee a fuller body, a sweeter texture, and a more pronounced fruity character. Natural processing beautifully enhances the darker fruity notes of goji berry and plum while allowing a sweet, slightly dessert-like finish reminiscent of chocolate-covered orange to shine through. The result is a cup that has plenty of fruitiness and depth, yet remains clear and smooth. It is a coffee that does not rely on extreme fermentation wildness, but rather on a full, sweet, and very well-structured profile.
