It's as if the fairy tale of the frog king has been transported into the world of coffee. With every sip, Dark Arts Coffee's Frog King will transform you from a skeptic into an enthusiastic coffee romantic. This naturally processed Ethiopian coffee from the Sidama region tastes exactly like something worth kissing: juicy peach jelly, fresh pineapple, and delicate black tea create an irresistible flavor profile that is playful, refreshing, and elegant all at once.
This coffee comes from the village of Bonora, located in the high mountain region of Arbegona, one of the highest parts of the Sidama region. The beans grow at an altitude of up to 2,330 meters above sea level, where cooler nights and slower ripening of the coffee trees create an exceptionally sweet and complex profile. The coffee is grown here by small farmers who, through their methods and consistency, prove that quality does not have to be a question of large-scale production. This lot, processed at the Bochesa station, received an SCA score of 87.5 points, placing it among the top specialty coffees.
The natural processing method is carried out according to strict rules: careful hand-picking of only fully ripe cherries, which are then sorted by flotation (a method in which the cherries are immersed in water and the ripe cherries sink according to their density, while the less ripe or damaged ones remain on the surface), and then evenly dried on raised African beds. The entire process takes 12 to 15 days, during which the cherries are turned regularly to ensure even fermentation and drying. It is thanks to this care that the coffee retains its fruity juiciness and aromatic purity, while acquiring a full body and delicately spicy aftertaste. So, will you kiss this Ethiopian frog prince?
