The coffee comes from the Gera area in western Ethiopia, located in the Oromia region. This high-altitude area is known for its rich, humus-rich soils, ancient forests, mountainous terrain, and ideal conditions for growing specialty coffee. Coffee trees grow here at an altitude of 1,900 to 2,000 meters above sea level, where the cooler climate slows the ripening of the cherries and contributes to greater sweetness and complexity in the beans. The Gera Farm was founded in 2008 by the family-owned export company Tracon and, in addition to coffee, is also dedicated to beekeeping, fruit cultivation, and organic farming. The farm grows traditional Ethiopian Heirloom varieties, which are prized for their diverse aromas and unique flavor profiles. It is precisely these varieties that give rise to cups full of delicate fruit, floral notes, and clean acidity, which are typical of Ethiopia.
Processing is done using the washed method, which emphasizes clarity and precise flavor expression. After harvest, the cherries are de-pulped, fermented in water, and then dried under controlled conditions. This results in a bright and transparent profile with notes of apple, gooseberry, and grape. Ethiopia Gera is an excellent choice for V60, Chemex, and other brewing methods where its freshness, lightness, and floral elegance truly shine.
