About Bugan Coffee Lab

Bugan Coffee Lab is a roastery in the heart of Bergamo, Italy. The sibling duo of Sonia and Maurizio are behind her success. The story of the origin of the roastery, its achievements and mission can be viewed below.

The path to roasting often follows a similar course. Sonia and Maurizio also started as two coffee enthusiasts, partly self-taught, with a passion to present fine coffee to the widest possible range of people. Naturally, their first business venture was a coffee shop. They have been operating the cafe since 2000 and have become known to the residents of Bergamo.

However, a mere café was not enough for Maurizio. He began to further his education in the exciting and dynamic world of fine coffee. He completed a number of courses around the world and under the guidance of experienced roasters. He participated three times in the Italian barista championship. The last impulse before founding the roastery was his journey through the coffee plantations. When he returned from Panama in 2014, he was clear.

So, in December 2014, Bugan Coffee Lab was created - roaster, coffee academy, cupping room and cafe in one. A place where you can drink great coffee, learn about it, or even find out how to run your own business. Maurizio selects the coffee himself on his travels through the plantations. It is very important for him to pay attention to the entire supply chain so that he can deliver a transparent product.

The mission of the Bugan Coffee Lab roastery is wider coffee education, introduction of selected beans to more people. Their long-term philosophy is the pursuit of the highest quality coffees, for people who love coffee as much as they do.

And why the name Bugan? Both siblings love flowers, but most of all bougainvillea. That would be too long a name, so they stuck with Bugan. The beautiful purple petals of this plant also decorate their logo.
