This unique coffee has made its way here all the way from Uganda in Africa, and it will win you over with its fruitiness, sweetness, and beautifully clean flavor profile. In the cup, the flavors of white currant meet the citrusy freshness of lime, giving the coffee a pleasantly juicy character. This is complemented by the sweetness of sugar molasses, which rounds out the flavor, making it smoother and leaving a beautifully sweet aftertaste with a light floral note.
The beans come from the Bukyabo region of Uganda, where coffee trees grow in the foothills of Mount Elgon at an elevation of 1,600 to 1,800 meters. It is precisely this elevation, combined with cooler nights and volcanic soil, that gives the coffee cherries ample time to ripen. The coffee is processed by The Coffee Gardens, a company founded on transparency and fair collaboration with approximately 209 smallholder farmers. Behind this lot is primarily farmer Nabukwasi Grace and her family, who have been working with The Coffee Gardens since its founding nine years ago. Nabukwasi Grace owns 10 coffee plantations in the Lower Bukyabo region. Due to the warmer climate, coffee trees here are more susceptible to diseases and pests; however, regular training helps her prevent problems, and she also shares her experience with other farmers in the area. The lot consists of three varieties—Nyasaland, SL14, and SL28—which are characterized by their fruitiness and pleasant acidity.
Ripe cherries are first pulped and then fermented for 40 hours in cold mountain spring water. They are subsequently dried on raised African beds and undergo 12 stages of sorting and inspection during processing, ensuring that no defective beans make it into the final coffee, so you can enjoy a truly unique cup.
