Tanzania Acacia Hills by Tanat Coffee is an exceptionally elegant filter coffee that showcases just how refined the Geisha variety can taste when grown in an African terroir. In the cup, candied lemon, dried fruit, vanilla, and black tea come together to create a delicate, layered, and highly sophisticated profile. The coffee feels light and delicate, yet offers plenty of sweetness and depth. A fresh citrus note gradually blends with creamy vanilla sweetness and a long tea-like aftertaste that lingers on the palate long after the cup is finished. It is a coffee that captivates with its elegance rather than its intensity.
Behind this lot are Leon and Aideen Christianakis of the Acacia Hills farm, one of the most respected producers of specialty coffee in Tanzania. The farm is located on the slopes of Mount Oldeani on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, one of East Africa’s most famous natural areas. The project was founded in 2007 by Leon Christianakis, a third-generation coffee producer, together with Mark Stelle. From what was originally an abandoned farm, they built one of the most respected centers for specialty coffee production in the country. The coffee trees grow here in the shade of acacia trees, and thanks to the high altitude, they ripen slowly, contributing to the exceptional complexity and clarity of the resulting cup. This lot received a cupping score of 88 points.
The coffee is processed using the washed method, which allows the character of the Geisha variety and the unique environment of the Arusha region to shine through. After harvest, the cherries are carefully sorted, pulped, fermented, and then washed with clean water. The coffee is then slowly dried under controlled conditions to preserve its delicate aroma and purity. The result is an exceptionally refined cup with floral elegance, citrus freshness, and a sweet tea-like finish that beautifully showcases the potential of top-quality Tanzanian Geisha coffees.
