Rwanda from the Portuguese roastery Von&Vonnie in Porto is a filter coffee characterized by its juiciness, sweetness, and very vibrant fruitiness. In the cup, it comes across as distinctly juicy, fresh, and clean, with a profile that works beautifully especially during the warmer months, but still holds its own even when brewed using a classic filter method. In the flavor profile, you’ll detect raspberries, pears, and rooibos tea. It’s a very light roast that allows the delicate, almost tea-like structure to shine through while highlighting the juicy acidity. Akagera Ikizere is exactly the type of coffee that feels light and elegant, yet has enough sweetness and intensity to leave more than just a subtle impression. On the palate, you can expect a clean, fruit-forward profile with a great deal of brightness and a pleasantly long finish that develops well even as it cools. It’s a filter coffee that feels modern, clean, and confident, without unnecessary heaviness or excessive fermented wildness. It’s also perfect for iced coffee and cold brew, where its fruity character opens up even more.

The coffee comes from Rwanda, specifically from the Akagera region in the northeast of the country. Behind this lot is a collective of 31 small-scale female farmers who cultivate small plots of land around a washing station owned by Emanuel. The individual farms are very small—some have only a few dozen coffee trees—which is precisely why this coffee has a strong community dimension. The total area of all the plots involved is 12.7 hectares, and the coffee trees grow at an altitude of 1,535 to 1,900 meters. This makes the lot’s name all the more interesting, as it is linked to the idea of traceability and fairer compensation for individual female producers. Thanks to more precise traceability, it is possible to track the coffee’s origin back to specific small farms, which gives the lot not only a clearer identity but also a stronger social impact. It is precisely the combination of the Rwandan terroir, the work of small-scale women producers, and the careful selection of cherries that creates a coffee that feels very lively, clean, and joyful.

Processing is done using the fully washed method, which in this coffee enhances clarity, a distinct structure, and a precisely defined flavor profile. The fully washed process serves as the foundation for the elegance of the entire lot. After harvest, the cherries are processed to thoroughly remove the pulp from the bean, leaving behind clarity, juiciness, and a clean, fruity character in the flavor. The coffee is then dried and roasted very lightly to highlight its tea-like lightness and brilliant acidity. The result is a cup that feels fruity, yet very smooth and transparent. This isn’t a heavy Rwandan coffee with a sweet density, but rather a filter coffee built on energy, freshness, and clean fruitiness that stands out well in both hot brews and cold brews or iced drinks. Thanks to the washed processing and light roast, the coffee remains very open, lively, and easy to read, making it a great choice for anyone who enjoys clean African cups with an emphasis on juiciness and lightness.
