The Austrian coffee pirates have delivered us a filter mill obtained from Rwanda in Central Africa. If you're craving a clean cup full of complex flavours, look no further. Thanks to the washed processing method, you are offered a beautiful demonstration of the richness of flavour of the Rwandan soil. You can enjoy the fresh and sweet flavours of orange and mango, which add to the complexity with notes of vanilla, sea buckthorn, curcuma and hazelnut, all on a tea-like oolong body.

Rwanda Abadatezuka is a washed Bourbon variety coffee that combines exceptional growing conditions, gentle processing and a remarkable origin story. It grows in the Cyato region near the Nyungwe forest, where pollination is aided by local wild bees - and it is their presence, according to locals, that contributes to the coffee's unique flavour profile. The climate influenced by Lake Kivu, the fertile soil (black humus and sand) and the absence of synthetic fertilisers or pesticides make this coffee not only a flavourful experience, but also an example of sustainable cultivation. Processing by the washed method involves a specific 'soaking step' - the coffee cherries are fermented for 12-18 hours in open concrete tanks, then soaked in water for a further 24 hours to achieve maximum purity in the final cup. The result is an elegant, fresh and subtly fruity coffee with pure notes that stand out in the filter.

The washed method of coffee processing, also known as "washed," focuses on purity and sophistication of flavor profile. After the fully ripe cherries are hand-picked, the skin and some of the pulp are mechanically removed using a depulper. The grains are then fermented in water tanks for 12-48 hours, during which time enzymes break down the remaining pulp. After fermentation, the grains are thoroughly rinsed and then dried on raised African beds or concrete surfaces for 1-3 weeks. This process, which requires care and plenty of water, allows the coffee's natural characteristics to shine through - resulting in a cup with bright, tea-like flavours, higher acidity and delicate complexity.
