Kenya Karinga AA, from the Prague roastery Tao Coffee, is a coffee that will captivate you with its freshness and balanced fruity sweetness. The cup alternates between notes of lime acidity and the delicate sweetness of blueberries with slightly herbal undertones, which together create a harmonious and pleasantly clean profile. The coffee is medium-bodied, with a smooth finish and a clearly articulated fruity component that stands out especially when prepared as espresso, but is also evident in filtered methods.
The coffee comes from the Karinga Coffee Factory, which was founded in 1983 in the central province of Kiambu in Kenya, in the district of Thika near the town of Gatundu. The plantation is operated by the Gitwe Farmers Co-operative Society with 650 members, 500 of whom are actively involved in growing and harvesting coffee. Farmers follow proven agronomic practices, including pruning, fertilizing, and mulching, and the region is characterized by red volcanic soil, high altitude ( 1,840 m above sea level in the case of this coffee ), and regular rainfall, which supports two harvests per year.
The coffee is processed using the washed method, with the cherries being hand-picked, hulled, and fermented overnight. This is followed by washing and soaking in clean water, after which the beans are dried on raised beds with regular turning, sorted, and carefully stored. This approach ensures that the coffee retains its purity and distinctive fruity complexity. Karinga Coffee Factory also supports the local community through training, financial assistance, and environmental measures such as special tanks for the safe absorption of wastewater.
