Ethiopia Boku from Nowhere Future Coffee Roasters is an espresso that showcases just how playful yet sweet a naturally processed Ethiopian coffee can be. In the cup , notes of strawberry, peach, and a subtle hint of almond come together to create a sweet, fruity, and slightly creamy profile. The espresso is juicy yet balanced, with a pleasant sweetness and a clean finish. It works great on its own, but also holds up well in milk-based drinks, where it retains its fruitiness and adds a subtle nutty depth.
The coffee comes from the Boku Abel washing station in the Hambela Wamena area of the Guji region, one of Ethiopia’s most respected coffee-growing regions. Approximately 600 smallholder farmers are involved in production, growing the native 74158 variety at an altitude of around 2,350 meters above sea level. It is precisely this extreme altitude, cooler climate, and slower ripening that give the coffee greater complexity and sweetness. The combination of traditional cultivation and meticulous work at the station creates the foundation for an exceptionally clean and distinctive cup.
Processing is done using the natural method, which highlights the coffee’s fruitiness and body. After selective hand-picking, the whole cherries are dried on raised African beds, where they are regularly turned and protected during the hottest parts of the day and even overnight to ensure even drying. This process takes approximately 7 to 10 days and requires constant monitoring. After drying, the beans undergo thorough sorting and preparation for export. The result is an espresso that embodies the typical sweetness of natural Ethiopian coffee, bright fruitiness, and a clean, balanced character.
