The aroma of jasmine, the tropical freshness of passion fruit and a subtle citrus note of lemongrass – this is what defines a cup of this Colombian Rodriguez Family Gesha coffee. It is a combination that is pure, playful and surprisingly sophisticated at the same time. Each sip unfolds gradually: first a light floral touch, then juicy fruit and finally a refreshing aftertaste of lime freshness. The coffee is selected and roasted by the Budapest-based roastery Casino Mocca, which has earned a reputation as one of the most progressive players on the European specialty coffee scene since its inception. Their approach is simple and straightforward – select the most interesting microlots and roast them in a way that brings out the terroir and natural character of each bean.
The coffee originates in Palestine in the Huila region, one of Colombia's most renowned coffee-growing regions. At an altitude of 1,650–1,950 meters above sea level, the Rodriguez-Ospina family has been managing their farm for more than eighty years. The land and traditions have been passed down from generation to generation, and today the farm is run by seven siblings who combine experience with a desire to discover new paths. Among them are Martha Cecilia, Graciela, and Linarco Rodriguez, who specialize in growing specialty coffee and are pushing quality forward through innovations in fermentation and exploration of different varieties, including the legendary Geisha.
Processing is done using the washed method with spontaneous fermentation. The cherries are hand-picked to ensure only the highest quality. After hulling, they undergo fermentation, which naturally enhances their freshness and complexity, and are then dried on raised beds. This process allows the delicate floral tones, clean acidity, and juiciness of tropical fruits to shine through.
