Rwanda 1000 Hills, from the Prague roastery Tao Coffee, is a coffee that captivates with its delicate sweetness and harmonious structure. The cup offers alternating notes of candied cherries, delicate chocolate, and toffee, which together create a full and balanced profile. The coffee has a medium body, with a smooth finish and a pleasant fruity sweetness that blends well with cocoa notes and a caramel aftertaste. Ideal for espresso, but thanks to its balanced character, it also excels in other preparation methods.
This coffee comes from the Rwanda Trading Company, which works with small farmers in the Kigali region. RTC was founded in 2009 with the aim of promoting social change through coffee and building transparent and resilient supply chains. The company provides farmers with training in financial literacy, agribusiness management, and sustainable agriculture, and ensures fair remuneration, including access to futures markets. The coffee comes from farmers who grow the Red Bourbon variety at altitudes of 1,400–1,900 meters above sea level, with an emphasis on quality and sustainability in farming.
The coffee is processed naturally, with fully ripe cherries dried directly with the beans, which preserves their natural sweetness and fruity character. After harvesting, the cherries are carefully selected and evenly spread out on raised beds, where they are dried for 10–14 days with regular turning to prevent uneven fermentation or mold. This process guarantees the purity of the cup and the full expression of the flavor profile with notes of dark fruit, chocolate, and caramel typical of Rwandan coffees from the Kigali region.
