The Panamanian Geisha from Mazelab Roasters, known asAlto Quiel, delivers in the cup exactly what makes this variety so highly prized worldwide. Berries and tropical fruits naturally unfold into a layered, bright profile, complemented by the sweetness of ripe stone fruits, which gently rounds out the overall impression and extends it into a long, lingering finish. An elegant, natural, yet surprisingly complex coffee that allows the variety to truly shine.

The coffee comes from the Alto Quiel area in the Boquete region of Panama, located in the province of Chiriquí at the foot of the Barú volcano. Boquete is one of the world’s most significant coffee-growing regions and a place that offers the perfect environment for cultivation. An elevation of 1,600 to 1,900 meters above sea level, rich volcanic soil, cool nights, and regular fog create conditions in which the cherries ripen slowly, developing a high concentration of sugars and aromatic compounds. The producer of Alto Quiel Selecto has long relied on a meticulous approach to cultivation and cherry selection, resulting in lots that allow the Geisha variety to fully shine in all its glory.

Alto Quiel undergoes natural processing, in which the cherries remain whole after harvest and are dried directly in the sun without prior hulling. During the slow drying process, sugars from the pulp gradually permeate the bean, which is clearly reflected in the cup as sweetness, fruitiness, and a characteristic full-bodied profile. For the Geisha variety, which is delicate and floral in its own right, natural processing adds depth and complexity without overpowering the variety’s natural elegance.
