Sweet, juicy, and refreshing—that's Alo Washed, a washed Ethiopian coffee from the Mazelab roastery in Prague. In your cup, you will find delicate floral notes, lively citrus acidity, and honey sweetness, which together create an elegant yet playful flavor profile. This selection from the Bensa region is perfect for those looking for a complex yet accessible filter coffee with remarkable clarity and a fresh character.
The coffee beans come from the Alo Village farm, which is run by young and progressive producer Tamiru Tadesse, who grows coffee at an exceptionally high altitude of 2,450 meters above sea level. Thanks to these extreme conditions, the coffee cherries ripen slowly, which significantly contributes to the intensity of the flavors and the high quality of the final bean. Tamiru is known for his emphasis on precision and sustainability, both in cultivation and processing. His work is proof that even small farms can produce exceptional coffees with a clear terroir.
Alo Washed is processed using the traditional washed method, which has long been preferred in the Bensa region for its ability to highlight the purity and floral and fruity notes typical of Ethiopian varieties. JARC 74158, bred by the Ethiopian Research Institute, shows its full strength here, combining delicacy, balance, and a clear flavor structure. The result is a fresh, precise, and elegant cup that beautifully represents the potential of specialty coffees from southern Ethiopia.
