Hacienda La Papaya Oak Barrel is an exceptional coffee from Ecuador that will enchant you with its depth and complexity. Rich tones of dried fruit and fresh tropical fruit unfold in the cup. These are complemented by complex rum tones, supported by a delicate sweetness and low acidity. This combination delivers an elegant and sophisticated experience, ideal for those looking for a full-bodied coffee with a long finish. Hacienda La Papaya Oak Barrel is also available in steeped bags – individual servings of ground coffee that you can easily prepare anywhere with just hot water. Even without equipment, you can enjoy a select cup with a rich character and full flavor.
The coffee comes from the Hacienda La Papaya farm, owned by Juan Peña, an agricultural engineer with a passion for innovation in the coffee world. The farm is located in the Saraguro area of the Loja region in southern Ecuador, at an altitude of around 2,000 meters above sea level. Juan focuses on growing the Typica Mejorado variety and uses advanced processing methods to achieve the most distinctive and memorable flavors. His micro-lots are sought after by baristas and roasters around the world.
The processing of this coffee is truly unique. After hand-picking the ripe cherries, they are fermented in oak barrels that were previously used to age Ecuadorian rum for more than 20 years. This method gives the coffee a deep, rich, and complex profile with lower acidity and a fresh fruit flavor that evolves into rich dried fruit and very ripe tropical fruit. The result is a coffee with a layered, sweet flavor that captivates with its complexity and depth.
