The Chirripó mountains of Costa Rica are home to a competition-winning coffee that combines elegance and tropical strength. La Totoba SL28 Natural from Spanish roaster Nomad Coffee represents the best of the local terroir, a coffee grown at an altitude of 1,950 meters above sea level, whose flavor combines ripe cherries, peaches, and honey. In the cup, it develops a bright fruity sweetness with floral notes of elderflower and a silky texture. Each sip is lively, clean, and precise, like a summer day in the mountains. It shows why Costa Rica is one of the leaders in competition coffees.
Behind this micro-lot is Don Lica, a producer known for his precise approach to harvesting and fermentation experiments. His La Totoba farm is located on the highest slopes of the Chirripó region, where cool nights and rich volcanic soil give the beans a unique complexity. The SL28 variety, originally from Kenya, has found ideal conditions here. Thanks to the high altitude and slow ripening, the cherries concentrate exceptional sweetness and distinctive fruitiness. This coffee was created especially for competition occasions where precision, purity, and character are decisive.
The cherries are harvested by hand when fully ripe and then processed using a natural method that enhances their sweetness and fruity character. During drying on African beds, the coffee is constantly turned to maintain purity and even fermentation. This results in a cup with full fruity intensity, honey smoothness, and bright acidity, which gradually opens up to tones of red fruit and flowers.
