Colombia CGLE17 Natural from the Danish roaster La Cabra showcases the unique character of the experimental CGLE17 variety. In the cup, delicate notes of violets blend with the flavor of red berries, creating a clean, complex, and very elegant profile. Thanks to the natural processing method, the coffee acquires a richer fruity sweetness, while carefully controlled fermentation preserves its freshness and varietal characteristics. As the coffee cools, the flavor continues to develop, transitioning from floral notes to a fuller fruity profile with pleasant complexity and a long finish.

The coffee comes from the Café Granja La Esperanza farm in Colombia’s Valle del Cauca region, where the CGLE17 variety itself was developed. It is the result of many years of breeding, during which growers crossed the Gesha and Caturra varieties with the goal of combining high cup quality with better resilience and yield. Later, the new line was crossed again with the Gesha variety, giving it an even more pronounced floral character. The lot comes from the Potosí farm near the town of Caicedonia and was harvested in November 2025 at an elevation of 1,800 meters above sea level. Thanks to careful plant selection and years of breeding, CGLE17 is now among the most interesting varieties grown by Café Granja La Esperanza.

The coffee cherries were processed using the dry method, supplemented by carefully controlled fermentation. First, a 24-hour open fermentation takes place, followed by another 50 hours of fermentation in closed tanks. The goal is to preserve the fresh varietal character of CGLE17 while developing a complex fruity aroma. The farm also uses mechanical drying, which allows for precise control over the duration and process of drying while minimizing water consumption. This combination results in a coffee with a clean flavor profile, distinct floral notes, and a rich fruity character that is typical of this lot.
