I had a Porlex Mini II – I'll compare it with that. Porlex is a spartan tool for camping, hiking, etc. Timemore is more durable, more luxurious, for home/office, train...
runs more smoothly and grinds faster. Does not slip in your hand.
It has a gentle click at zero, so you can set it the same way every time (without worrying about stones).
Subjectively, I find French press coffee to be slightly tastier than Porlex coffee.
Porlex was supposed to be able to make espresso, but it didn't. Timemore is at least two degrees lower, but I haven't tried it yet.
80g for cold brew was ground three times in the Porlex. Here, it might take four times, but it will take the same amount of time :) I was able to fit 32g into the hopper, but I don't know how much ground coffee will fit into the container...
The design is simply superb. Rubberized bottom, sturdy container for ground coffee, rubber even on the bottom of the handle (nice detail). The effect of covering the handle joint is also nice.
Working with Porlex is fine, but with Timore it's a pleasure.
For that price (1490 CZK), it's great.
For travel, only if you're not concerned about weight; otherwise, look for something else (it weighs 530 g – the Porlex weighed 250 g and was slightly more compact).
Must not be immersed in water, i.e., keep this in mind when traveling + clean only with a brush (Porlex had ceramic stones - Jar dealt with coffee oils on a toothbrush)
It can be disassembled into slightly more parts than the Porlex, but it's no big deal. You just have to be careful not to lose the washers and springs.
It is not possible to remove both grinding stones - the one that does not rotate is a little more difficult to access when cleaning (with Porlex, both parts of the grinding stones can be removed).
