More Control for Hybrid Coffee Brewing
The OREA Regulator Switch #8 is a small accessory for anyone who enjoys brewing coffee with the Hario Switch or wants to experiment with hybrid brewing. It functions as a flow regulator that helps fine-tune the water flow after the steeping phase. This allows you to combine the fuller body of immersion brewing with the cleaner, more structured character of pour-over brewing.
Fast drainage, but with greater control
Regulator #8 is the fastest option in the OREA Flow Regulators line. This makes sense for hybrid brewing—the coffee has already been in contact with water for some time, so once the valve is released, there’s no need to unnecessarily slow down the flow. The goal is rather to give the brew a clearer structure, maintain a more stable maximum flow rate, and at the same time ensure a clean, efficient drawdown without clogging.
Designed for the Hario Switch
The OREA Regulator Switch #8 is designed for use with the Hario Switch base. It employs a similar logic to the OREA V4 FAST base—it relies on uniform contact points at the bottom of the brewer and sufficient space for the movement of both water and air. As a result, it helps minimize flow blockages, filter clogging, or unexpected slowdowns during the brew.
When to Use It
The regulator is ideal when you want to extract a fuller body and sweetness from your coffee through steeping, but at the same time don’t want to sacrifice clarity and a more elegant finish. It’s particularly useful when brewing with the Hario Switch, where it helps you better separate the steeping phase from the subsequent drainage. The result can be a more predictable recipe, more stable extraction, and a clearer flavor profile.
