About Wildkaffee Rösterei

The history of the Wildkaffee Rösterei spans all the way back to 1892 when Leonhard Panholzer and his wife set up a local shop with groceries and dairy products in Partenkirchen am Alten. They also sold fresh coffee from a small roastery in Hamburg, which in those days was a real rarity as the art of coffee roasting was still relatively unknown.

A passion for good-quality coffee was retained in the family throughout generations and 120 years later, Leonhard's great-great-grandson, Leonhard "Hardi" Wild and his wife Stefanie, restored their families ties to coffee and founded the first roastery in Garmisch-Partenkirchen called Wildkaffee Rösterei.

A year later, their team was enriched by the addition of roaster Josef Staltmayr, and together they began processing beans of the highest quality, which they still source until today from some of the most well-known farmers across the world. Hardi and Josef often visit their suppliers at their farms, not only strengthening their good relations but also quality checking on the produce. They source more than 85% of their beans from people they know personally. As soon as a new harvest is ready, they make their way directly to the source to taste it.

I found myself in this coffee! The pear dominates.

There was a lot of bitterness in the coffee, which is typical of cheaper, lower quality coffees. Although it did not dominate the taste, it still spoiled the overall impression of the coffee.
