About 19grams coffee

19grams coffee is a world-renowned coffee roastery based in Berlin with almost 20 years of experience up their sleeve.

They first opened their doors in Friedrichshain in 2002 under the name Tres Cabezas. Back then, Specialty Coffee wasn't a topic the locals really talked about. The third wave started picking up momentum around the year 2003, so back then it was still in diapers. So their goal was to educate their customers as to the importance of Specialty Coffee, not only in the quality of the coffee they were drinking but also in the lengthy supply chain, about the locations and culture, where their coffee is grown and about the socioeconomic and environmental issues associated with it.

And from that day on they learned a lot- and have never stopped learning. They travel to the origins of their coffees, to experience the farms where the coffees grew. They establish strong friendships with the farmers and they learn new methods of processing and cultivation. Some farmers have become directly involved in the 19grams coffee family, thanks to which they remain in constant contact and can thus improve their trade each year. The roastery calls this approach Direct trade. They visit farms, maintains permanent connections and transports beans back to Berlin. Thanks to sincere work and engagement, they can ensure their farmers are being paid fair wages, sufficient enough not only to ensure a good quality life but also the development of their farm. 19grams are one really big family. For a long time a Czech coffee soul, Bára Ernygrová, belonged to this big family, and after years of coffee experience in Prague, Dublin, Paris, São Paulo and Wellington, she settled in Berlin as the main roaster for 19grams coffee.

In 2018, the name Tres Cabezas remained only for the café in Friedrichshain, and the entire roastery was renamed 19grams coffee. In addition, two more cafés opened in the centre of Berlin (Mitte) and one in the southern Kreuzberg district. They have also opened up an event centre directly in the centre of Berlin: 19 grams Alex, a space serving not only as a cafe, roastery and certified training centre but also as a space for meetings, workshops, celebrations, team-building events and dinners.
